"Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds,
but His hands make whole." Job 5: 17, 18
The pain in my heart felt unbearable. It reminded me of what I felt when my Aunt died. As the days went by, the pain remained and each day seemed to have its own problems that deepened my pain even more. It felt like God was wounding me but I didn’t want to cast the blame on Him. In the midst of my pain, I knew that God was moulding me to be who He has called me to be, but it honestly did not feel that way. It felt like I was only being wounded. However, months later I and others around me saw an evident change in my demeanour and that is when I saw what God was trying to achieve.
Job is the perfect example to show that God restores those who are wounded. Job went through much more than many of us have ever experienced, yet he was able to see what God was trying to achieve through his pain. After having gone through the most difficult situations, God restored to Job all that He had lost and more. The Devil wanted to prove that Job was not going to be faithful to God if he lost everything he had, but Job proved the Devil wrong. What about you? Do you think you have what it takes to prove the Devil wrong?
As Christians we are not exempt from the trials and tribulations of this life. However, sometimes during these experiences we fail to recognize what good could possibly derive from our pain. I want you to see God as the potter. The song, ‘the potter’s hand’ has the lyrics, “The potter wants to put you back together again.” God is like our potter; He holds us gently in the palms of his hands. Sometimes as He shapes us, foreign objects may threaten to break our mould and other times, God intentionally allows us, as the clay, to be broken so that he can start all over again and make us better than before. Whenever you are in a painful situation and you can’t understand the reason behind your pain, close your eyes and picture God, the potter putting your broken pieces back together, making you whole again.
